Rooted in wonder.
Growing with purpose.
At Highland Forest, intentional learning and childhood discovery grow together. Our early learning classrooms use Frog Street curriculum, brought to life through hands-on experiences, caring teacher guidance, movement, and creativity.
Frog Street curriculum.
The Highland Forest experience.
We use Frog Street throughout our early learning classrooms to support purposeful, age-appropriate learning from infancy through Pre-K. It provides a foundation for language, thinking, physical growth, and social-emotional development.
Our teachers bring that foundation into the Highland Forest environment—connecting learning goals with children’s curiosity, classroom experiences, and opportunities to explore the world around them.
Structured learning.
Space to explore.
Our approach pairs intentional planning with hands-on exploration. Teachers introduce ideas, model skills, and guide learning while giving children opportunities to investigate, make choices, and express their own thinking.
Books, conversations, movement, creative activities, and discoveries in the environment help turn learning goals into meaningful experiences. Classroom learning and outdoor exploration work together to nurture curiosity.
Examples might include sorting leaves, describing a new discovery, building and testing a structure, or creating art inspired by nature.
Meaningful learning, in every direction.
Learning experiences connect early academic skills with social, physical, and creative development. Children have opportunities to build skills through active participation and teacher guidance.
Early Literacy & Language
Books, songs, storytelling, and conversations help children build vocabulary, listening, and communication skills. As they grow, opportunities to explore sounds, letters, and early writing support their developing literacy.
Early Math & Problem Solving
Counting, sorting, comparing, patterns, and building make early math tangible. Children practice thinking through a challenge, trying an idea, and noticing what happens.
Science & Discovery
Observing, asking questions, and exploring materials encourage children to investigate. Discoveries in the classroom and outdoors offer starting points for noticing changes and making connections.
Social-Emotional Development
Supportive relationships and guided interactions help children practice identifying feelings, communicating needs, taking turns, and building friendships. These experiences encourage confidence and a sense of belonging.
Physical Development & Motor Skills
Movement, active play, and hands-on activities support developing coordination. Reaching, grasping, drawing, building, and other age-appropriate experiences give children opportunities to practice large and small motor skills.
Creative Expression
Art, music, movement, storytelling, and imaginative play give children different ways to share ideas. Open-ended experiences encourage creativity and allow children to explore their own approaches.
The world around us is
part of the learning.
Highland Forest’s nature-inspired identity creates a meaningful connection between learning and the environment. Outdoor exploration invites children to notice, wonder, move, and discover.
A leaf can spark a conversation about color and shape. A shadow can lead to a question. Natural textures can inspire a creative project. These everyday moments connect hands-on exploration with language, math, science, and creative expression.
Building a foundation for kindergarten.
Kindergarten readiness includes early academic learning as well as the everyday skills children use to participate, connect, and keep trying. Our Pre-K approach supports growth across these areas:
- Language, listening, and early literacy
- Number concepts and problem solving
- Communication, cooperation, and emotional awareness
- Independence and participation in routines
- Coordination, creativity, and curiosity
Teacher-guided learning and hands-on experiences give children opportunities to practice these skills as they prepare for their next learning environment.
